Design Patent Lawyers Want More From USPTO Guidance

Director Tracy-Gene G. Durkin was quoted in the article “Design Patent Lawyers Want More From USPTO Guidance,” published by Managing IP. From the article:

“Tracy-Gene Durkin, director at Sterne Kessler and leader of the firm’s mechanical and design practice group in Washington DC, says the circumstances in which applicants can submit a drawing showing a single 2D view are pretty unusual.

‘I wish the office would go into more detail about when they’re permitting it and when they’re not,’ she says.”

Durkin also commented that the USPTO stated that it would put design patent examiners’ training materials online, but this hasn’t happened yet.
