Director Monica Riva Talley was quoted in the Managing IP article “How Brands Manage Social and Political Issues,” which recaps the shaping public opinion panel that Monica spoke on during the MIP Global Trademark Forum on April 14, 2021. From the article:
“Monica Riva Talley, director at law firm Sterne Kessler in Washington DC, said brands sometimes unintentionally infringe copyright when they repost images or quotes as part of their purpose-driven advertising or social media campaigns.
‘It’s important to remember when you’re doing this kind of outreach to think about the other types of IP out there and not quote famous people or use their images willy-nilly,” she said. “Because even though it’s for an altruistic purpose, it’s still corporate messaging.'”
