PTAB Finds Transactions Patent Claims Are Obvious

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) ruled in favor of SAP America Inc., finding Lakshmi Arunachalam’s claim construction and proceedings of U.S. Patent No. 8,346,894 unconstitutional. Litigation and Electronics Group Director Lori A. Gordon is noted by Law360 as counsel for SAP America Inc., in this matter.

The PTAB held that the claims regarding an electronic invention known as the TransWeb Exchange was prior art, and therefore, unpatentable. In addition, the PTAB held that Arunachalam failed to respond to the grounds instituting the inter partes review.
