Ten Tips and Tricks for Navigating the USPTO’s New Search Tool

The International Trademark Association (INTA) published an article co-authored by Sterne Kessler Counsel Lauriel Dalier titled, “Ten Tips and Tricks for Navigating the USPTO’s New Search Tool.”

The article addresses the challenges faced by attorneys and users following the USPTO’s November 30, 2023 transition from its longstanding search database to a new cloud-based system.  The article offers ten essential tips and tricks for effective and efficient searching, including the use of Expert Mode with Field Tag and Search Builder for more precise searches, the application of Regex for complex queries, and the avoidance of the default General search to prevent inefficient results.
