Overview
Fei Sha is an associate in Sterne Kessler’s Biotechnology & Chemical Practice Group. Fei’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, as well as the preparation of opinions of counsel, including patentability, non-infringement, invalidity, and freedom-to-operate analyses. Her technical areas of expertise include cellular and molecular biology, cancer biology, molecular pathology, immunology, genetics, and recombinant DNA technology.
Prior to her transition to law, Fei spent many years carrying out translational research, focusing in particular on the differential presence of molecular biomarkers in cancer cohorts, and the mechanisms of signaling proteins regulating cell growth and proliferation in a variety of cell types. She also completed graduate level coursework in experimental and molecular pathology.
Fei received her J.D. from the UIC John Marshall Law School (now the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law). During law school, Fei served as Lead Articles Editor for the UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law (RIPL). She published a comment on the use of post-filing experimental data to bridge the gap in non-enabling patent disclosures. Fei earned her B.A. in biological sciences from the University of Chicago.
Prior to joining Sterne Kessler, Fei worked as a law clerk at an international IP law firm, where she assisted in patent prosecution and trademark brand protection matters.
