Lauriel F. Dalier is counsel in Sterne Kessler’s Trademark & Brand Protection Practice. Lauriel focuses her practice on U.S. and international trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and portfolio management for clients in a wide variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, communications, electronics, machinery, manufacturing, software, entertainment, finance, fashion and foods. Lauriel has significant experience in trademark prosecution before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings. Lauriel conducts due diligence reviews of intellectual property assets, and counsels clients on mark and logo selection, packaging review, brand protection, expansion, and management. Lauriel also counsels clients on domain name matters, website review, and licensing matters. With more than ten years of experience in trademark law, she is well versed in all aspects relating to the lifecycle of a trademark.
Prior to entering private practice, Lauriel worked for more than seven years as a Trademark Examining Attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In this role, she rendered agency decisions on statutory and procedural issues concerning U.S. trademark applications. Lauriel successfully argued ex parte appeals before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and served as a trainer and mentor for new examining attorneys.
During law school, Lauriel interned for the Honorable Judith Bartnoff of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
In addition to practicing law, Lauriel founded and managed her own e-commerce business where she was highly sought-after for her talent in understanding and meeting customers’ needs with creativity and enthusiasm. Lauriel’s business acumen, coupled with her trademark expertise, allows her to develop strategies that provide clients with legal solutions that meet their business needs.
Born in Puerto Rico, raised in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Costa Rica, and educated in the U.S. and various other countries, Lauriel has a unique multi-cultural perspective. She is fluent in Spanish and is proficient in French. Lauriel has a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America and a B.A. in international relations and affairs & economics from American University.
